Sometimes the reason why you didn’t get a job is easy to pinpoint: you lacked key qualifications; you and the hiring manager didn’t hit it off; or you just flubbed the interview.But it’s not always that black and white (I would actually prefer it to be!).

Who can criticize a company for growing at 30% a year? … A few that know it could be growing at 50% a year.
Who would support their spouse to leave a job during their best year ever? …The one that knows that they could be leaving $100K/yr on the table by not being opportunistic.
A few months ago a colleague told me, “I don’t know how you do it – you’re chipper and upbeat every single day!”
According to researchers at Germany’s Aachen University, only 27% of people are in fact “morning people” – and I’m NOT one of them. I’m just…HAPPY, and it makes me a better Recruiter,Teammate, Friend and Husband.
Calm down, and definitely don’t send me any pictures, that’s not what I was referring to. (And if it IS that big, why so testy?!)
What I mean is we recruiters hear this all the time from our Clients: “Why should I pay you a search fee? I am very well connected. My Network is HUGE!”
In some ways, Silicon Valley is a world of its own, where the brightest and geekiest minds get together to work on the next Facebooks and Googles.
But that could create a big gap in the language they use from the rest of the world.
I have some good news and bad news…The good: The market is back in a BIG way, and organizations are spending money to make money- anywhere from expanding their staff, to upgrading equipment and investing in new software. If you’re in the software business- your company is probably growing by leaps and bounds!
If only we had some sort of magical power that would prevent us from making bad decisions. Seriously, if I had to choose a superpower, that would be on the top of my list.
“Just look at our online job posting and start sending us candidates” is one of the least favorite phrases a headhunter wants to hear from a company they’re recruiting talent for. You might as well ask me to clean your house and just hand me a rag. Where’s the mop? The Windex? The OxiClean? (Or for those of you over 40, the Pine-Sol?)
Don’t get me wrong-I understand that recruiting may be a small part of your job, but how well (or poorly) you hire can surely account for a percentage of you and your company’s success, so why not do it right?
