People have a number of preconceived notions about who Recruiters are and what they do. Now that I’ve begun my own career recruiting top talent in Life Sciences, I want to set the record straight about some common misconceptions.
MYTH: Recruiters find all their candidates on LinkedIn.
I can tell you many interesting tales from my experiences helping people improve their careers. One that sticks out in my mind involves a candidate who landed their dream job but in the end had to turn it down. Here’s the story:

For example, everyone says to “be yourself” during a job interview. But what does that really mean? How do you strike the right balance between being genuine and professional, while effectively articulating your ideas, beliefs, cultural fit, process, methodology, etc.?

When a recruiter tells a candidate post-interview “I’d like to share some feedback”,the candidate may translate it in their mind to “I’m going to tear you down”. They automatically imagine the worst case scenario and their defenses go up.
