About the Role:
As a Business Development Underwriter, you’ll manage a designated territory to drive profitable growth through underwriting new business, renewals, and endorsements. The role is a 50/50 split between underwriting and marketing, including regular travel to agency offices—especially in major metro areas. Success in this position requires strong retail agency relationships and the ability to identify and capitalize on new business opportunities.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of relevant insurance experience (or equivalent education and experience).
• Proven track record in commercial property and casualty underwriting.
• Experience with Excess & Surplus (E&S) and General Liability (GL) is highly preferred.
• Standard lines candidates will be considered if they have strong retail agency relationships and experience with contractor, habitational, or manufacturing accounts.
• Strong connections with independent agents and a collaborative, service-minded approach.
• Comfortable using online underwriting tools (e.g., SAGE, Silver Plume, Reference Connect).
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook; thrives in a digital, paperless environment.
• Industry coursework (CPCU, ASLI, AU) is a strong plus.
