About the Role:
As Business Development Underwriter, your responsibilities will include managing an assigned underwriting territory to achieve profitable growth. This involves underwriting new business, handling renewals, endorsements, and other transactions. Your role will also entail identifying new business opportunities and effectively managing agency relationships.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant insurance experience—or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven success in commercial lines property casualty insurance.
- Experience working with independent agents is a plus; surplus lines underwriting experience is highly desirable.
- Experience underwriting Excess & Surplus (E&S) and General Liability lines of coverage.
- Familiarity with basic computer programs in a Windows environment (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Previous experience in a paperless environment and knowledge of online underwriting tools (e.g., SAGE, Silver Plume, Reference Connect) is preferred.
- Advanced professional coursework (e.g., CPCU, ASLI, AU) or completion of other insurance-related classes is a bonus.
