Role Snapshot:
This role is responsible for driving profitable growth in assigned territory by underwriting new business, building strong agency relationships, and uncovering fresh opportunities. You’ll combine sharp risk evaluation and smart pricing with delivering fast, accurate service on quotes, endorsements, audits, and policies. Success means hitting performance targets, managing risk through inspections and audits, and ensuring proper coverage and premium adequacy. You’ll also mentor junior underwriters, collaborate on reinsurance strategies, and strengthen partnerships through education and strategic engagement, making a real impact on both the business and the team.
The Ideal Candidate:
- 6+ years of commercial lines P&C underwriting experience; Excess & Surplus (E&S) background highly preferred, along with General Liability experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage agency relationships and grow profitable business.
- Skilled in evaluating risk, setting adequate property limits, pricing policies, and determining acceptable terms within authority.
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proficient with Windows-based tools (Word, Excel, Email) and comfortable in paperless, online underwriting environments (e.g., SAGE, Silver Plume, Reference Connect).
- Willingness to travel within the territory
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Advanced professional insurance coursework (CPCU, ASLI, AU) or other insurance-related classes is a plus.
- Experience working with independent agents is preferred.
