About the Role:
As a Business Development Underwriter, you’ll manage a designated territory to drive profitable growth through underwriting new business, renewals, and endorsements. This role is approximately 60% marketing and 40% underwriting, with regular travel to agency offices—especially in major metro areas. Success in this position hinges on strong relationships with retail agents and the ability to spot and capture new business opportunities.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of relevant insurance experience (or equivalent education and experience).
• Proven track record in commercial property and casualty underwriting.
• Experience with Excess & Surplus (E&S) and General Liability (GL) is highly preferred.
• Will consider standard lines candidates with strong retail agency ties and experience in contractor, habitational, or manufacturing accounts.
• Strong connections with independent agents and a collaborative, service-minded approach.
• Comfortable using online underwriting tools (e.g., SAGE, Silver Plume, Reference Connect).
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook; thrives in a digital, paperless environment.
• Industry coursework (CPCU, ASLI, AU) is a strong plus.
