I’m Just a Naïve Millennial

I’m just a naïve millennial, but I never expected my life after college to be anything like this. I hear our Insurance recruiters say this to their candidatesall the time, “how did you get into insurance, or did insurance find you?” I do feel as if recruiting found me. I never pictured myself working in a bullpen in an office park; in fact, I loathed the idea of working a stereotypical 9 to 5 job. The funny thing is, that a stereotypical 9 to 5 job has become something way more after I closed my first deal.

I’ve always been a people person, I can talk to anyone about anything, and that’s why I went to school for psychology. I wanted to become the best sports psychologist the world had ever seen, but those dreams had to be put on hold after reviewing my student loan payments [Insert your favorite curse word here]… But this is by no means a sob story, as the reason for the back story is simple- Im not the only millennial that’s been put in this situation. But Im lucky, as I’ve stumbled upon what could be a great career, not just a “job” to help pay off my student loans and put me through grad school. And that’s the message for my millennial cohorts: It’s okay to take that job you “need” and put your dreams on hold; but don’t be surprised if the dream changes…That’s life in the “real world.”
