Summertime- and the Living’s Easy!

We work all year long, put up with crazy bosses, caustic work environments and companies we really want to leave… Well, are we going to do something about it, dang it!?… “Sure, sure… right after summer is over. I worked hard for it, I deserve it, and I won’t let anything (including job hunting) interfere with my enjoying the dog days of summer!”

WRONG!

The absolute best time to look for a new job is NOW. Why? …

1. People relocate during the summer: Kids are done with school, so the time is right for them to sell the house, buy a new one, get everyone settled, and start their new job before the school year starts again. So that means that their former job is now open.

2. The end of the second quarter is here: If we’re at goal, there’s a big push to break records and hire more people to make it happen. If we’re not, it’s time to identify who is not carrying their weight, and replace them. Either way, open jobs.

3. All of those folks who make themselves look “indispensable” are on vacation: Suddenly management finds out that they really aren’t that essential, and wouldn’t it be nice to have someone really good in that role?! Open job.

4. It’s bonus/commission time:  For those who get their bonuses or commissions paid quarterly or biannually and have been holding out on accepting a new job, the check has cleared, it’s time for them to move! More job openings.
