What are you learning from the people around you?

Colleagues define us. We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. So who are you five closest friends or colleagues? Surround yourself with people who are better than you and you will get better.

Surround yourself with people you have accomplished more than and you get a false sense of security and stagnate.

Run with winners. The Pinnacle Society is an elite consortium of the 75 top producers in the US. Hobson, with 5 members, has more Pinnacle members than any other firm. I was the Education Chairman for 15 years. Recently, I presented a half day session on Contemporary Recruiting techniques in an Open Sourced world.

Goals attract people. Set short-term and long-term milestones. Review them regularly as to align yourself and the people around you with your plans and dreams. Let your inner circle be the fuel to achieve your goals. Find three people to hang out with. Someone who is better than you. Someone at your level you can compete with, and someone you are better than who you can mentor.
