Recruiting Tinder StyleI’ve become a better recruiter because of my Tinder App.

I used to sift through LinkedIn looking for a candidate for my client’s search the way I looked through Tinder, hoping for a model, but then wondering what a model would see in me! There are a lot of fabulous people on LinkedIn with amazing backgrounds.

And they aren’t going anywhere. But they sure like the attention of a recruiter’s call or InMail!

I also used to swipe everyone to the right. The barriers of entry to date me were embarrassingly low. My criteria were shallow, how attractive is the picture, how obvious is it that you work out? But the best recruiters in my office are far more selective. Why is this a match? What is this person’s career arc? Do they seem to have a cohesive plan? If so, let’s do a deep dive and find out if this is the right time for them to leverage their success and opportunistically interview.

But now that I’ve matured, and don’t want to just “hook up”, I realize that in essence the two processes are the same and serve the same purpose. Nothing is going to happen in your personal life unless you make it happen. Tinder allows me to contact more like minded people faster. What happens next is up to us! And isn’t that the essence of recruiting? Stop whining about your job, your boss, your lack of compensation or promotion potential. Think of a recruiting call as a swipe to the right for your future! Be open-minded, see what I have to offer. After all, we’re just two consenting adults!
