Independence and Choices

American FlagAnyone who knows me can attest to the fact that I am an independent thinker. My interests reflect this- from building things with my hands, to my passion for music. (I’m a percussionist on multiple instruments from playing drums in a Christian rock band to a cajon [drum box] in acoustic settings, with shaker and cowbells- and now I’m learning the piano.)

In fact, what drew me to my career as an Executive Recruiter is the fact that my job requires a certain amount of entrepreneurialism, i.e. being an independent thinker who paves his/her own way.

Speaking of independence, earlier this year I had the opportunity to visit theSmithsonian Institute of American History and was awestruck viewing the display of the STAR-SPANGLED BANNER FLAG from the War of 1812. The flag is stretched out in a special air-controlled chamber. It is tattered, with pieces missing and 30 by 34 feet in size! Absolutely inspiring. To me the flag represents our ability to do things in our country that many take for granted. Independence & Choices!

INDEPENDENCE: As a Recruiter here at Hobson Associates, my independence applies to how I create my path to success by helping make others successful, by bringing job opportunities to their attention when they least expect it!

CHOICES: I make choices about what I do each day: I strategize, plan, create relationships, and drive business connecting with my existing and new clients.

So, my point is (drumroll please.. get it?): In this life, whether in our personal or professional matters, we are free to learn, we are free to work, and we are free to make our own choices.

I urge you to think more about your “independence” and the “choices” you make. I promise you it will change your life for the better!
