Secure Your Life!

Woman with UmbrellaSecurity has been a huge topic of discussion among companies, hospitals, banks, mom and pop shops, individuals, pretty much anything you can think of. With our instant access to anything and everything at the touch of a button, it has put everything we own, including our identities, at risk.

As a Technology recruiter who places talent for cybersecurity companies, the concept of “security” is always at the forefront of my mind. But what about our personal lives? How can we reduce our daily risks and stresses?

Here are some simple adjustments that you can make in order to live a more secure and happy life:

SECURE…

  1. …your health – With diseases, obesity, cancers, and other unimaginable illnesses being at an all-time high, we need to do everything we can to take our health into our own hands. It seems like a hard task, but it starts by making better daily decisions and being mindful of what we put into our bodies. Luckily, health and fitness is a huge trend today, so healthier living options are readily available. TIP: Simply put- don’t eat anything from a box, eat more greens veggies and whole grains, eat less processed foods, move more and walk daily.
  2.  …your finances - Save, save, save, as much as you can. A Forbes magazine survey suggests that nearly 7 in 10 Americans have only $1000 or less in savings. This terrifying statistic really stood out to me, but I can also understand it. With the daunting amount of student debt and the overall higher cost of living, saving anything can be very difficult for an individual or family. But then again, by taking small steps your savings will start to add up.TIP: To save just $20 a week, just cut out your morning java runs, and you will eventually save over $1000/year- putting you ahead of many in the US with your savings.
  3. …your mental health –Keeping our minds healthy and happy is essential to not only our daily lives but to our overall physical health. So log off your device or computer, and RELAX. Go on a walk, hang out with friends, read a book, find inspiration wherever you can find it, or just take a nap. With the world at out fingertips, it can get overwhelming and takes us away from being in the “now”.
  4. …your relationships - Our loved ones are the people we turn to when times are rough or great. Because they are always there, it is easy to take them for granted. So smile at them more, thank them and tell them how much you appreciate and love them—bottom line, just be kind. Everyone wants to feel loved and appreciated, and those small offerings will go a long way and will keep them in your life.

Security in life is never guaranteed. But you can make small lifestyle changes that will guard what you do have control of in your world… You have more power than you think!
