Make 2017 Your BADA$$ Year

A close friend of mine has been having trouble in her current job.  She had been trolling all the job boards every day in hopes of finding her “dream” role, with little luck. The ensuing daily disappointment of her fruitless search along with the uncertainty of what she should be looking for, had her feeling frustrated and aimless. As her friend who also happens to be a recruiter, I have given her many suggestions, but with no success.

However, last night’s conversation with her was very different. We have often talked about attitude and how she needs to stay positive. To start off 2017 right, she bought the book “You are a Badass.” It is about visualization and believing in your next step, whatever it may be.  Since reading this book her entire mindset has completely changed! This week alone she has found three different jobs that she is very interested it (and it’s only Wednesday morning!). She has also been able to brush off a confrontation with her boss that would normally have thrown off her entire day.

The beginning of a New Year is the perfect time to reset yourself and work towards a better you. Whatever it is that is making you unhappy, stop complaining about it and DO something. Whether it is that stubborn holiday weight, a bad relationship, your job, or a family feud … it can all be changed once you do something to change it.

My friend decided to adjust her mental state through VISUALIZATION. This is a great tool, especially during this time of the year.

  • Put together a “dream board” and cut out pictures from magazines, or print pictures from the internet of things you want to achieve.
  • Write a list of what you want on a piece of paper, write every detail of what it is you want, and think about it as if you already have it. The idea and hope of a better next step will change your outlook on your life and your current situation.

Although I believe there is a secret ingredient to New Year's resolutions that isn’t often practiced: GRATITUDE.

  • Remember to look back and be thankful for what have and had in your life so far. Sometimes we get too focused in on what’s next and forget to be thankful for what is already here in front of us.
  • Being in a grateful state of mind will help you power through the harder days, and will change your state of mind altogether.

I truly believe you can make any situation you are in better, even if it’s just small changes. So decide what you want and commit to it.  “New habits are hard before they become easy”.  Nothing comes easy, just take the risk and work towards it every day. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Happy New Year folks- I wish you all a BADA$$ 2017!
