FOLLOW the LEADER

Business people on bicyclesLet's rewind back to the time in your life when your biggest personal challenge was learning to ride a bike. When you decided to take the training wheels off did you look to another kid who still rode with training wheels? No, of course not! You aspired to be like the neighborhood kids who rode a two-wheeler and made it look easy.

The same goes for launching your career. You have the choice to:

Follow those before you who have proven to succeed.

                                OR

Follow those who continue to struggle.

The answer seems obvious to me…

When you are starting off in a new career, I suggest you seek out leaders within your organization who:

  • Have what you are looking for.
  • Make the business look easy.
  • Enjoy what they do - and follow their lead.

Too often we overthink things. We attempt to re-invent the “wheel”, and do things our way and become frustrated when we don't see the results we expected. If the leaders before you are using a system that you have access to, then by all means follow the system. Most are in place because they work. They have been tested over and over again and been proven to yield positive outcomes.

I am not saying that there is no room for new ideas. Learning is essential for growth. While you are following the system put before you, continue to find innovative means to grow your business and incorporate these ideas into the existing system. At this point, you will probably see an increase in production.

So stay focused on "WHY" you made the decision to do what you are doing, follow in the footsteps of successful people, invest in learning, and don't allow yourself to stay stuck in the victim thought process. After all, that thinking is what led you to be dissatisfied with where you were before you made this move, isn't it? … Follow the leader(s) around you and enjoy the ride towards success!
