Believe in Yourself

Believe in YourselfA phrase I find myself repeating to my sons on a regular basis is “believe in yourself”. I try my best to lead by example and be the best version of myself in every aspect of life. I want my kids to know that if they work hard and believe in themselves, they can achieve almost anything they set out to do. When I think about it, confidence is also something I should be preaching to my job candidates while prepping them for their interviews! ...

Yes You Can!

Self-confidence is a characteristic that employers value and embrace in their employees.[Research shows that, on average, interviewers reach final decisions about applicants in only four minutes after meeting them.] It is easy to fall into a rut of self-doubt and insecurity when job searching.  After all, you’re really putting yourself out there, exposed to the risk of being judged and possibly rejected. You may feel at times as if you are asking for a favor—“Please hire me!”… You need to remind yourself that you are a commodity that has great potential value for the company you are interviewing with.

Adapting to Change

A trait just as important as believing in yourself is the ability to adapt to change and different situations. It’s easy to stay in your comfort zone. Take it from me, I had to take my own advice when I switched careers over a year ago. I don’t typically like change, and it can even be said that I am a creature of habit, so when presented with an opportunity to join the Staffing Services team at Hobson Associates- I didn’t jump right away!  I was comfortable where I was, but knew I could do and be more. I had to fight the “complacency curse” that had set in and take a dose of my own medicine.  If I could tell my kids to believe in themselves- then I needed to do the same. So I took the leap and found that many of the skills I acquired over the years were transferable and actually helped me be a better and more efficient recruiter.

I am happy to say that I made my boys proud!: I was recently named Hobson’s “2016 Rookie of Year” at 45 years old!  I’m so glad I took the leap and “started over”. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow with the company, helping companies build their teams, and people find their next roles.

It’s ok to be afraid and question yourself.  What is not ok is to let those fears and doubts stop you from following a new path that might make your life a heck of a lot better-personally and financially.

As JD Rockefeller said, “Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great!”  It takes confidence, tenacity and fearlessness. I’m living proof of it.

When you’re ready to go for your great- send me your resume and give me a call!
