The Daily Trials and Tribulations of a Recruiter

Getting a “live connect”, as we call it in our industry, is more difficult than ever- despite technology having pushed us to hyperconnectivity.

[...Bespoke shopping ads magically appear in our news feeds, Snapchat instantaneously shares the hilarity of Mom learning how to use a hoverboard, and everything is ‘old news’ because we’ve already seen it on Facebook!...] As great as all this technology is, I’ve found that a telephone conversation is still the most effective way to communicate with candidates and clients …

… During a typical day I make tons of phone calls, leave endless voice messages, send and reply to emails, answer and return above phone calls, schedule meetings and interviews, market to potential new clients, manage paperwork, contracts and databases… All before lunch time! … Then 3:30 PM rolls around, and I hear from a client that they want to make a job offer to one of my candidates. YES! Everything else comes to a halt!  The negotiation process begins and I haven’t even started my marketing plan for the next day! … Thankfully, technology allows me to go home and respond to emails and calls that come in after 5PM from my phone. Then it starts all over in the morning!

You see, recruiters are social by nature. We love to connect, but more importantly – we love to LISTEN. Paint a professional picture and walk us through your career history, and we’ll show you what you can leverage… When your career and/or your profits are on the line, our call is something you can’t afford to scroll past… Now forgive me, I have two missed calls to get back to.
