“I Wish My Recruiter Knew”: GEOGRAPHIC AREA
Welcome to the second post in our “I wish my recruiter knew”series!
We polled our clients, candidates and social media followers, asking them to answer a question that most search firms don’t dare ask-- what’s on their minds.
Below is another response-
A CANDIDATE SAYS:
“…The geographic area I want to work in and where the jobs are located.”
A RECRUITER RESPONDS:
1) Where you live, how far you’re willing to commute, and whether you would relocate for the right opportunity, are some of the first questions a good recruiter will ask a candidate. Of course being geographically flexible maximizes a candidate’s opportunities, but we understand that flexibility isn’t always the case.
The good news is that more and more companies are creating positions that are remote/home-based, with the need to go into the office occasionally- so if you find a dream position that is out of state or in another city, it might not be the end of the road.
2) The location of a job a recruiter is calling you about should also be one of the first elements of the conversation. If the location isn’t a right fit, it doesn’t make sense to delve any further. In our firm’s case- we are very niched and have clients all across the country, so a similar opportunity in a more ideal location might be in our database or pipeline.
Communication is essential- so we don’t waste our candidates’ time and maximize our own efforts as recruiters.
